A unique cryptocurrency known as DOGS token, built on The Open Network (TON), is making a difference by donating over 6 billion tokens valued at around $4.5 million to nonprofit organizations globally. This generous initiative comes after the launch of a charity portal in late November.
The newly established platform allows registered nonprofit organizations from all corners of the world to apply for funding, showcasing DOGS’ dedication to channeling unclaimed airdrop tokens towards charitable causes. According to a statement to Cointelegraph, “Throughout the year, more than 6 billion DOGS tokens, which equate to $4.5 million based on current rates, will be allocated to chosen organizations following a rigorous approval process.”
As part of this endeavor, DOGS has formed a partnership worth $150,000 with Best Friends Animal Society, a nonprofit that aids homeless animals in the United States. Andrew, the founder of DOGS, stated, “Our collaboration with Best Friends Animal Society is an invitation to the crypto community to contribute to a future where every shelter achieves the 90% no-kill benchmark by 2025.”
To commemorate this partnership, DOGS will be financing one month of care for adopted dogs. In addition, the DOGS charity portal was recently unveiled, featuring the lovable mascot, Spotty.
The DOGS memecoin project was inspired by the iconic dog drawing of Pavel Durov, co-founder of Telegram, symbolizing Digital Resistance and a TON rebrand following his arrest in France. The dog symbol represents Durov’s defiance when he was instructed to remove posts of dissidents and liberal thinkers in Russia in 2011.
With the launch of an airdrop that reached 17 million users in September, DOGS has continued to gain momentum. The DogsMini App on Telegram garnered over 53 million users, with approximately 42 million eligible for the token airdrop. This initiative aims to raise awareness about cryptocurrencies on the messaging platform while advocating for animal welfare.
Spotty, the beloved mascot of DOGS, will now act as an ambassador for Best Friends Animal Society, making appearances at events and in promotional materials. Initially intended for a charity auction by Durov, Spotty has now become synonymous with The Open Network (TON).
Despite experiencing highs and lows since its inception, DOGS token remains committed to its philanthropic efforts. By supporting nonprofit organizations and raising awareness about important causes, DOGS is paving the way for a more charitable cryptocurrency landscape.
