Pump.fun, the innovative platform known for creating Solana-based memecoins, is receiving backlash for allowing harmful and violent content to be broadcasted on its livestream feature.
Users have expressed outrage over the platform’s lack of moderation, with calls for stricter controls or even the complete shutdown of the livestream function.
In a recent incident on November 25, a user identified as Beau, a Pudgy Penguins safety project manager, raised concerns about a Pump.fun livestream where an individual threatened self-harm if their coin did not meet a specific market cap.
Beau urged Pump.fun to take immediate action, disable the livestream, and offer support to the individual. Additionally, there have been reports of users making violent threats, including someone firing a gun out a window every time their coin increased in value, and a child threatening harm to family members over token prices.
Critics have labeled Pump.fun’s livestream feature a “pipeline of felonies,” prompting demands for the feature to be deactivated until more robust moderation tools are in place.
In response to the criticism, Pump.fun’s leader, known as Alon, defended the platform’s moderation efforts, emphasizing that the team actively monitors and removes illicit content.
While Pump.fun asserts that it is addressing harmful content, the community is calling for greater transparency and immediate action to prevent disturbing broadcasts. It remains to be seen whether the platform will implement additional safeguards or changes to the livestream feature in the future.
